AKVA group won both the rising star category due to the outstanding performance of Operations Director Scott McKay and the Business Development category due to the company’s efforts related to innovation, export, rental, service and support.
“We are very proud, and it is an honor to be awarded these prizes. It is a valued recognition of the efforts we put in, building our business around customer needs and a strong technology proposition”, says Jason Cleaversmith, General Manager of AKVA group Scotland.
Scott McKay started in AKVA group in 2012 as an Electrical Engineer. He quickly advanced in the company, first as a Senior Engineer and later as Operations Manager. Due to his merits and performance, Scott was promoted to Operations Director of AKVA group Scotland in 2017, only 27 years old.
“His maturity, customer focus, aquaculture knowledge, reliability and enthusiasm for the business is the driving force behind the Operations side of our business”, explains Jason Cleaversmith.
As part of this new role, Scott has had to move from a hands-on management approach to a more strategic undertaking, ensuring that those in his team have the tools and are empowered to meet the organizations goals. He has been a strong advocate of staff training and development and ensures that HSE is at the top of the agenda, whilst also driving his team to exceed the expected contribution to the business. Now in charge of 26 staff, he provides considered and well thought through decisions and can be relied upon to drive through effective change programs.
“Through his roles within the company he has overseen a major transition in our business, where best in class service and support are at the very heart of what we do. He is truly a rising star and we are very happy that this also got recognized by the jury”, Jason says.
A key driver for AKVA group Scotland is providing personal, professional service and innovative solutions, resulting in a close working partnership across the industry.
Since winning the Supplier of the year award in 2015, AKVA group Scotland have established several business development initiatives supported by a continued investment in the business including increasing staff levels to 75, double that of 2015 and growing revenues. The initiatives include innovation and development of new products, increased rental business, services and support plus increased business in export markets.
AKVA group Scotland has developed a whole range of new products tailored to the customer’s needs. Technological Innovation and development of direct and indirect services are crucial in capturing the total value creation from the aquaculture industry. The company highly recognize the implications of equipment downtime on the stock’s performance, hence they emphasise their continued focus on rapid support.
“Being close to the customer is extremely important to us and we continue to build our service team, making sure we offer the best-in-class service, every time”, Jason explains.
The company has also significantly increased their rental business in terms of both revenue and the range. Available products now include power infrastructure, lights, cameras, environmental sensors, net cleaners and feed systems.
“The key advantage of a Rental Package is that they enable farmers to focus on growing the fish while AKVA group Scotland ensure the equipment is working 24/7”, explains Jason.
“We are proud of the part we play in developing our business to meet our customers’ needs and our contribution to the Scottish value chain in the Highlands. I think the Business Development prize is a good testimony that we are on the right track”, he concludes.
